The Center for Creative Education (CCE) offers a free Open House event for families and prospective kindergarteners through 4th grade on Saturday, July 23. The event will take place at CCE’s new campus in West Palm Beach, which houses The Foundations School.

CCE’s mission is to transform teaching and learning through creativity and the arts. In addition to providing afterschool and in-school programs across Palm Beach County, CCE also operates The Foundations School. This private school focuses on improving literacy rates in students from underserved communities through an arts-integrated curriculum. The school uses a sliding fee scale based on household size and income, and no one is turned away for an inability to pay. Classes have fewer than 15 students, ensuring that students benefit from small group and individualized academic instruction.

“We started The Foundations School in January 2021, with the goal of combatting the literacy crisis plaguing our communities and using arts-based curriculum to teach academic subjects,” Robert L. Hamon says, President and CEO of CCE. “At The Foundations School, we aim to give students a solid reading foundation through regular assessment and one-on-one attention in the classroom. After our first year, we are already seeing positive results that will continue to grow as we expand to serve new grades and more students.”

During the Open House, families will have the opportunity to participate in a fun art activity led by a teaching artist and learn more about the school and learning environment at various information tables throughout the building, taking the parents on an impromptu tour of the new facilities.

“At the start of this past school year, only 33% of our third-grade students were reading on or above grade level,” Hamon says. “But by the end of the year, that percentage increased to 67% reading on or above grade level. We can’t wait to welcome more students to our beautiful new campus.”
